This Herbert Adams Gourmet Baker’s Selection Chicken & Leek in Creamy Camembert Sauce has been on my radar for a while now and gave us a break from our usual run of beef pies.
The pies are described as ‘tender RSPCA Approved chicken breast and thinly sliced leeks in a creamy Camembert sauce, wrapped in flaky pastry’. It contained 20% chicken, 7% leek and 1.8% Camembert.
The prominent leek flavour on our first taste had us apprehensive, yet to our pleasant surprise, the chicken had an equally rich flavour in both the pieces of meat themselves and the sauce, which is topped with a generous and creamy Camembert. Indeed, all three titular ingredients — the leek, chicken and Camembert — held their own in perfect balance without overwhelming each other or creating an overly rich flavour overall.
