This is the Morinaga Hi-Chew Superfruit Mix produced in Taiwan and containing dragonfruit, acai and kiwi.
This is the Dragon Fruit, which uses dragonfruit juice. The candy has a white centre surrounded by a pink exterior with chia seeds. Fittingly and likely unintentionally, it resembles a dragonfruit itself with the exception that the seeds are on the ‘skin’ rather than in the ‘flesh’. Taste-wise, the candy has a rather nondescript fruity flavour that’s sweet without much distinct flavour, which is essentially the rather bland flavour of a fresh dragonfruit. Biting into the chia seeds gave a similar sensation and nutty flavour as the seeds of a fresh dragonfruit.
This is the Acai, which uses acai extract. The candy has a white centre surrounded by a purple purple exterior with chia seeds. Upon tasting, a rich berry flavour somewhere between a blackberry and a raspberry came through with a hint of a chocolate in the aftertaste much like the fresh berry itself.
This is the Kiwifruit, which uses kiwi purée. The candy has a white centre surrounded by a pale green exterior with chia seeds. Even more so than the dragonfruit, the appearance of this one mimics the flesh of a kiwifruit and on tasting, so does the flavour. It’s sweet without acidity much like a ripe kiwifruit with the chia seeds giving some texture much like the seeds in the kiwifruit. This was our favourite of the three flavours.
This Morinaga Hi-Chew Superfruit Mix contained 90 g or 18 pieces. It was produced in Taiwan and received as a gift from family visiting from the United States in 2019.
