Gudrun Collection of Fine Belgian Chocolates

This is the Gudrun Collection of Fine Belgian Chocolates. We weren’t impressed by these chocolates in the least, so this post serves only as a reminder. The chocolates lacked finesse, with the chocolate itself tasting overly a sweet and chalky (much like Reese’s) and lacking the velvety smoothness and depth of enjoyable chocolate. These chocolates are not worth the calories.

Each box contained two layers each containing 16 chocolates. There are 14 different chocolates.

This is the Jonas, ‘dulce de leche flavoured white ganache with crunchy pieces, enrobed in milk chocolate and sprinkled with meringue’.

The combination of the dulce de leche ganache and the meringue was too tooth-achingly sweet to be enjoyable.

This is the Luscious, ‘intense 76% dark ganache in a dark chocolate shell’.

The darkness of the chocolate was impossibly rich with a very astringent finish, much like what we’d expect gnawing on a cocoa bean to taste like.

This is the Noblesse, ‘dark chocolate with apple filling and crunchy cinnamon creme’.

We enjoyed the naturalness of the tart apple filling with the cinnamon notes in the cream well restrained.

This is the Harmony, ‘crunchy praline enrobed in milk chocolate’.

We enjoyed the crunch of the praline that contrast the chocolate.

This is the Coralie, ‘a perfect balance of delicious raspberry creme filling and white chocolate in a dark chocolate cup’.

The sweet raspberry flavour came through with an initial tartness reminiscent of medicine before redeeming itself by mellowing with the crunchy top giving pops of sweetness and texture.

This is the Buschemi, ‘praline with pistachio pieces enrobed in rich dark chocolate’.

The pistachio praline was smooth and tasted much like almond flavour, surprisingly.

This is the Kaida, ‘a tasty dark cocoa ganache topped with a decorative chocolate creme filling inside a milk chocolate cup’.

This was very cute with the dark chocolate ganache being surprisingly enjoyable despite being overly sweet.

This is the Rigoleto, ‘a creme filling with crispy cereals and roasted hazelnuts enrobed in dark chocolate and topped with milk chocolate flakes’.

The overall flavour reminded us of Ferrero Rocher but with less texture and poorer execution.

This is the Carmine, ‘a velvety salted caramel in a milk chocolate shell’.

In a box of duds, this was our favourite of the box, with the gooey caramel masking the cheapness of the chocolate well.

This is the Coco Tresor, ‘white ganache with toasted coconut flakes, enrobed in dark chocolate’.

The coconut added textural interest and flavour to cut through the richness of the dark chocolate.

This is the Jules, ‘a perfect harmony of white chocolate and a classic truffle filling’.

This was impossibly smooth and incredibly sweet as the truffle centre was not rich enough to counter the sweetness of the white chocolate shell.

Finally, this is the Meghan, ‘dark chocolate hides a rich lemon and vanilla creme filling with a touch of lemon zest.

This was our least favourite of the box with the flavour reminding us of a lemon flavoured Greek yoghurt.

This Gudrun Collection of Fine Belgian Chocolates contained 32 chocolates. It was produced in Belgium and received as a gift from acquaintances in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
