We had the opportunity to try mochi doughnuts from Mochiric in Cabramatta thanks to D’s colleague. The doughnuts were 1 for $4.00, 6 for $22.00, or 12 for $36.00.

This is the Cinnamon Donut. First impressions of the doughnut were not promising, as the feel of picking it up suggested a heavy dough, while the cross-section lacked the slightly translucent quality of usual mochi doughnuts. Alas, the taste of the doughnut confirmed these first impressions — it had a very dense mouthfeel, that lacked any of the signature bounce that defines mochi doughnuts. Instead, the doughnut tasted like stale sweet bread rather than light, fluffy and chewy.

This is the Black Sesame Donut. Having established that the mochi doughnut component was lacking, we were relieved that the flavoured doughnuts delivered squarely on their promised flavours. This black sesame flavour came through in the white chocolate base, which gave a crisp crunch before melting to a creamy sweetness, and was backed up well by the extra texture in the black sesame seeds themselves.
We also tried the Pandan Donut (no photo), which featured pandan icing topped with desiccated coconut. It delivered a bright green colour as well as a bold and enjoyable flavour.
Overall, if mochi doughnuts are what one is after, Mochiric is not the place to get them — Demochi Donut Bar and MochiDonut are on point in that regard. That said, if doughnuts are what one is after, there are better doughnuts available, The Krispy Kreme Original Glazed being one of the most accessible that comes to mind.
Mochiric is located at 23/47 Park Road, Cabramatta NSW 2166.
