Mame Cocoa Mixed Japanese Nama Chocolate

This is the Mame Cocoa Mixed Japanese Nama Chocolate. The chocolate is made by hand in small batches in Victoria, with Tōkyō Lamington becoming its exclusive stockist in Sydney in December 2022.

Each mixed box contained sixteen individual nama choco of three flavours: hōjicha and white chocolate, black sesame and white chocolate, and yuzu and milk chocolate. The chocolate was sourced from Belgium and France, while the cream and butter were ingredients local to Victoria.

Hōjicha & white chocolate (5 pieces)

The piece of nama choco melted to a silky smooth creaminess with a very aromatic hōjicha aroma. Upon tasting, the same hōjicha notes came through rich and bold, masking any hint of the dairy notes in the white chocolate base. It tasted like a strong hōjicha latte in solid form and was our favourite of the three.

Black sesame & white chocolate (6 pieces)

This piece of nama choco had the same silky smooth creaminess and a warm nutty aroma. Upon tasting, the black sesame flavour came through with a rich nutty buttery flavour that amplified the dairy undertones of the white chocolate. We were surprised by the grey colour of the chocolate itself and expected a darker colour like the black surface, yet the black sesame flavour was enjoyably bold.

Yuzu & milk chocolate (5 pieces)

This piece of nama choco had a floral yuzu aroma and surprised us with the brightness of the yuzu flavour as well as with how much we enjoyed the combination of chocolate and fruit, which had been hitherto a combination we’d disliked. An initial tangy citrus acidity met the palate before melting to a silky smooth creamy mouthfeel that spread the fragrant floral notes of the yuzu throughout the palate.

Stored refrigerated. these pieces of nama choco had an intriguing, luxurious mouthfeel that was at once silky, creamy and smooth yet cold at the same time in a similar way to deliciously sweet flavoured butter.

This Mame Cocoa Mixed Japanese Nama Chocolate contained 112 g or 16 pieces. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2022.
