Seiki Mikan Mochi

This is the Seiki Mikan Mochi. It consisted of mochi embedded with mikan juice and candied iyokan peel from Ehime Prefecture.

Each piece was sealed individually. Our bag contained two of the three designs featuring Ehime Prefecture’s mascot, Mikyan.

Each mochi piece measured around 4 cm in diameter and 1.5 cm in height, emitting a sweet mandarin aroma. Upon tasting, the texture was squishy and stretchy, slightly firmer than usual mochi and lacking the bounce often found in Japanese gummies. Biting into the mochi unleashed the vibrant flavour of sweet mikan with a gentle undertone of acidity. The citrus oils imparted a subtle bitterness that also brought a numbing sensation to the tongue. Meanwhile, the scattered bits of candied peel introduced texture and a sweet zestiness, without adding any extra bitterness. Despite the tongue-numbing attributes, the mochi’s natural mikan flavour and soft texture made for an enjoyable experience.

This Seiki Mikan Mochi contained 130 g (13 g x 10 pieces). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2023.
