Honey Rosa stands as a unique plum cultivar produced in Gyokuto, Kumamoto Prefecture. This plum is a brief delicacy, available for a mere 10 days from early to mid-June annually. It is renowned for its elevated sugar content (16-17 Brix), subdued acidity, and distinct juiciness and tenderness.
This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Kumamoto Honey Rosa Plum, which used juice from the honey rosa plum.
Each gummy appeared as an opaque hue of red-pink, spanning about 3 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height. A lusciously sweet-tart aroma of plums emanated from the gummies. Upon tasting, the fine sugar dusting gave an initial burst of sweetness and crunch. The gummy’s outer layer offered a resilient, chewy texture, introducing a gentle, sweet plummy flavour with a subtle undercurrent of acidity. This texture contrasted with the inner jelly core, which unveiled a deeper plum flavour. Its refined and aromatic sweetness harmoniously combined with a robust yet invigorating acidity, taking centre stage towards the finish. The interplay between the gummy’s bounce and the interior’s purée-like richness created an enchanting gummy, capturing the exquisite flavour of fresh Honey Rosa plums.
