This is the Yamazaki Biscuits Aerial Miorine’s Fresh Tomato. The flavour resulted from a collaboration with the renowned anime, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, drawing inspiration from the tomatoes cultivated by Miorine Rembran, a character within the series.
These were four-layered corn chips in a style more popularly widely sold by Orion Turtle Chips.
Each chip was about 3 x 2.5 x 1.5 cm in size with four ridged layers generously sprinkled with tomato-flavoured seasoning powder. They had a sweet tomato aroma. Upon tasting, the chips were crisp and light, while the tomato flavour was immediately evident as deeply savoury umami with a moderate tanginess and gentle sweetness. By mid-bite, the flavour of the corn chips came to the fore, with a dominating sweet corn flavour that persisted through to the finish.
Each chip measured about 3 x 2.5 x 1.5 cm, featuring four distinct ridged layers coated generously with tomato-flavoured seasoning powder. Their sweet tomato aroma was immediately noticeable. Upon tasting, the chips exhibited a satisfying crispness and lightness. The tomato flavour was apparent right away, delivering a robust umami profile with a moderate tanginess and subtle sweetness. As the bite progressed, the corn chips’ inherent taste became more prominent, with a prevailing sweet corn flavour that extended to the finish.
While we tend to prefer tomato-flavoured chips that lean towards a pronounced savoury and tangy profile rather than a sweet one, these chips were nonetheless enjoyable. However, they didn’t quite align with our preferences for repurchase. It’s worth noting that they fared better than the Orion Turtle Chips, which leaned even more towards sweetness.
