Phở Oanh Vietnamese Noodle Shop, Blacktown

Phở Oanh Vietnamese Noodle Shop has been around since 2012, when we first caught the enticing scent of phở drifting from the neighboring Asian grocer in Good Luck Plaza. Although we didn’t try it then, a recent visit to the area prompted us to take notice of its impressive 4.6/5.0 star rating on Google. Intrigued by its longevity and high acclaim, we decided it was finally time to give it a try.

Pandan Tea (complimentary): The distinct aroma of pandan filled the air as soon as the cups were placed on the table. However, typical of complementary beverages, the taste was watered down, though still appreciated.

Phở Bò Tái ($13.00)

The beef broth carried the unmistakable aroma of phở, featuring prominent notes of star anise and cinnamon, with a savory profile and a subtle touch of sweetness, avoiding any obvious use of MSG or sugar. It was accompanied by approximately eight slices of beef and silky-smooth noodles. However, we found the broth lacking in the rich beef flavor characteristic of exceptional phở, tasting somewhat thin. Additionally, the beef slices appeared slightly tough, likely from being overcooked in the broth.

Overall, Phở Oanh Vietnamese Noodle Shop provided a satisfying bowl of phở, considering the price and authentic flavour, particularly for those craving the dish in the area.
