This is the Kaneka Foods x JA Zennō Aomori Apple Gumi. It was made with purée from Fuji apples grown in Aomori Prefecture and contained 2.4 billion CFUs of labre lactic acid bacteria.
Each gummy displayed an opaque beige hue, measuring approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, and emitted a sweet, fresh apple aroma. Upon tasting, the outer gummy offered a satisfying bouncy resistance, akin to a 3 out of 5 on Meiji’s softness-to-hardness scale. The apple flavour promptly emerged, presenting a mellow Fuji apple taste with a gentle honey-like sweetness, which intensified with subsequent chews as the jelly centre melted on the palate. It left a clean aftertaste.
Overall, the gummy’s minimal acidity and fresh, mellow sweetness captured the essence of fresh Fuji apples while providing a satisfying texture. For a more intense and vibrant apple flavour, however, the Nippon Yell Yamagata Kōtoku Apple Gummy would offer more immediate satisfaction.
