This is the Koikeya Koi Jaga Zeppin Tartare Sauce, featuring fried discs made from compressed thin strips of potato, seasoned with tartare sauce.
Each bag contained 7 pieces, with each disc measuring 4.5 cm in diameter and about 0.8 cm in thickness.
The aroma was mildly savoury. Upon tasting, the same savoury quality initially came through with a rich chicken flavour that lingered into mid-bite. As one crunched through, a gradual, mellow tanginess from the lemon and pickles in the tartare sauce began to emerge and intensify. The overall flavour was distinctly savoury, with the tartare sauce providing a depth, similar to dipping fried chicken into the sauce. The combination of tartare seasoning with the potato somewhat masked the usual potato flavour, giving it less resemblance to regular potato chips compared to the anchovy and olive flavour. However, like that flavour, the crunchy texture and addictive seasoning made it hard to stop at just one piece. These would have been a definite repurchase, especially if available in larger quantities.
