Nippon Yell Gummy Kumamoto Yuubeni Strawberry

This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Kumamoto Yuubeni Strawberry, made with purée from Yuubeni strawberries grown in Kumamoto Prefecture.

Yuubeni is a strawberry variety developed in Kumamoto Prefecture in 2015, distinguished by its large size, conical shape, bright red colour, and well-balanced sweetness and acidity.

Each gummy had an opaque pink-red hue, measuring approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with a sweet strawberry aroma.

On tasting, the sugar dusting on the surface provided an initial sweetness and a gentle crunch, followed by the firm, bouncy texture of the gummy. The strawberry flavour emerged immediately, led by a rich sweetness. With further chewing, a refreshing sourness developed, peaking shortly after mid-bite before giving way to a lingering, deep strawberry sweetness in the aftertaste.

Unlike the Skyberry strawberry gummy, which featured a softer jelly-like core, these relied entirely on the gummy base to carry the flavour. The result was an intensely juicy strawberry taste—vibrantly sweet yet balanced with a hint of fresh acidity, avoiding an overly jammy profile. The concentrated flavour was reminiscent of peak-season strawberries at their most fragrant. The absence of a jelly centre was not missed, and these gummies were well worth repurchasing.

This Nippon Yell Gummy Kumamoto Yuubeni Strawberry contained 40 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
