Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Okinawa Yanbaru Pineapple Core

This is the Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Okinawa Yanbaru Pineapple Core, featuring semi-dried pineapple cores—typically discarded during the canning process—sourced from Yanbaru National Park in Okinawa Prefecture.

Each piece was a circular disc measuring approximately 2 cm in diameter and 0.5 cm in thickness. The pieces had a dark yellow-orange hue, were dry to the touch, and had a fine sugar coating on the surface.

Despite being made from the pineapple core, the texture was not overly fibrous. Biting through produced an initial cooling sensation on the palate, followed by a few necessary chews to release the bright pineapple flavour. The flavour varied slightly between pieces, with some offering a richer sweetness and others a more pronounced tartness and juicy acidity, but all delivering a vibrant pineapple taste in a convenient bite-sized format. While minor fibres were present, they did not stick between the teeth. Overall, this was a flavourful and practical way to repurpose a part of the fruit that would otherwise go to waste.

This Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Okinawa Yanbaru Pineapple Core contained 30 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2024.
