This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Ōsaka Delaware, made with juice from Delaware grapes grown in Ōsaka Prefecture. Delaware grapes, a variety of Vitis labrusca, are known for their lack of the pronounced “foxiness” typical of other grapes in this category and are often used in spicy sparkling wines.
Each gummy had an opaque, pale red-pink hue and measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height. It carried a mellow, sweet, musky aroma of red grapes. The firm, bouncy outer layer yielded easily to a softer, jelly-like core. The subdued foxiness of these grapes was immediately noticeable in the outer gummy, presenting a sweet, earthy muskiness before transitioning to a more concentrated, richer flavour in the centre. The core had a juicier acidity yet remained well-balanced, delivering a full-bodied grape flavour without veering into artificial intensity.
Overall, these gummies effectively captured the mellower notes of fresh Delaware grapes, offering a taste reminiscent of juice from table grapes.
