This is the Black Sesame Milk ($10.50) from Kamakura Warabimochi. It featured Kamakura Warabimochi’s signature black sesame warabimochi, cut into smaller pieces with scissors and layered beneath Jersey milk and whipped cream.
On tasting, the drink’s success lay in the integration of their well-regarded black sesame warabimochi—known for its rich, nutty depth and soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture. The Jersey milk, while forming a distinct layer above the sesame, was exceptionally smooth and restrained in flavour, avoiding overpowering dairy notes. Instead of blending, the milk contrasted effectively with the intensity of the ground black sesame paste and the gentle chew of the warabimochi, producing a satisfying textural and flavour interplay. The drink’s sweetness came solely from the warabimochi and milk, offering a natural and balanced profile.
Overall, a standout black sesame beverage distinguished by its nuanced flavour, texture, and restraint in sweetness. Well worth repurchasing.
