This is the Want Want Spy Daisakusen Stick Gumi Pineapple & Lychee, featuring pineapple and lychee flavours under the Spy Daisakusen label—named after one of Japan’s early RPGs, Spy Daisakusen, released by Pony Canyon in 1982 and inspired by the Mission: Impossible franchise. The product contains juice concentrates of both fruits.
Each stick measured approximately 5 cm in length and 0.5 cm in thickness. The lychee variant had a light beige hue, while the pineapple was a vivid yellow. Both were coated in sugar crystals and emitted a faint tropical aroma with a predominantly sugary profile.
On tasting, the sugar crystals delivered a light crunch that transitioned into a chewy, elastic centre. The texture leaned more towards dense taffy than a traditional gummy—stretchy rather than bouncy. The lychee flavour developed gradually, opening with a mellow sweetness and a delicate floral note before evolving into a juicier tropical character reminiscent of Yeo’s Lychee Drink, persisting gently through to the finish. In contrast, the pineapple variant was more immediate in flavour, delivering a bright, rich sweetness suggestive of ripe golden pineapple. Its overall expression, both in taste and texture, was reminiscent of Kanro’s Pure Gumi, and it stood out as the stronger of the two. Nonetheless, both flavours were competently executed and worth repurchasing.
Overall, stretchy, sugar-coated stick gummies delivering soft lychee and bold pineapple profiles—pineapple was the preferred of the two.
