This is the YBC Picola Strawberry, made with 10% fresh strawberry and additional strawberry flavouring.
Each box contained two individual bags, with five rolled wafer sticks per bag.
Each stick was approximately 12 cm in length and 1 cm in diameter, with a hollow core and a ribboned tri-colour appearance of tan, white, and pink. A vivid aroma of fresh strawberries was noticeable on opening.
The wafer had a crunchy, light texture on biting through, retaining its crispness through to the finish. As it gave way to the cooler, cream-coated interior, the Maillard notes of the wafer appeared first—subtle toasted sweetness—before the strawberry cream began to melt on the tongue. The strawberry flavour emerged almost immediately, beginning with a mellow fruity sweetness, followed by a mid-palate brightness from the acidity, and concluding in a juicy, ripe strawberry note that lingered pleasantly.
The combination of texture and flavour was well executed, with a clear and natural-tasting strawberry profile anchored by the lightness and crunch of the wafer. It was an elegant and well-balanced product with an appealing balance of sweetness, acidity, and structure.
