Kyōto Premium Matcha ($10.70 for a regular)
This drink featured warabi mochi in a matcha latte, topped with whipped cream and matcha powder. With slightly less ice (though still about half the cup), this drink allowed for better distribution of the warabi mochi’s sweetness. However, larger chunks of mochi made it difficult to drink through the straw. The matcha latte itself was weak, lacking the bold, grassy notes of matcha and tasting primarily like sweetened milk. The whipped cream intensified this milkiness, and since the warabi mochi itself doesn’t have much flavour, the drink ended up tasting more like sweetened milk with soft blobs, rather than offering any flavour contrast or balance.
This Kyōto Premium Matcha was purchased from Torori Warabimochi in Sydney, Australia in September 2024.
