When it comes to eating fresh guavas, I’m more familiar with the green apple guavas that are common in South East Asian countries than the red guavas that tend to flavour Western beverages. But I do enjoy the flavour of red guavas and this is Guava Juice by Dewlands, a blend of 78% grape juice and 22% guava juice.
The juice is a translucent orange-red colour with a sweetly tropical guava nose. Served chilled, the sweet notes of red guava came through from the outset with a minimal amount of grit that is characteristic of guava juice giving it thicker mouthfeel than ordinary juices. The sweetness becomes more pronounced in the body of each sip, but the grape juice adds only sweetness without interfering with the pleasantly bold guava notes through to the finish. A slight grit lingered on the palate in the finish, leaving a refreshing tropical aftertaste. Overall, we’re pleased with this guava juice and it’s second only to the Dewlands Lychee Juice.
