Pokka Sapporo Hoobaru Fruit Saku Saku Kakugiri Apple Yoghurt

This is the Pokka Sapporo Hoobaru Fruit Saku Saku Kakugiri Apple Yoghurt. Translated to mean a ‘crunchy, diced apple yoghurt’, it contained fruit flesh but not fruit juice.

When served chilled after inverting the bottle, the drink emitted a sweet-tart yogurt aroma reminiscent of Calpis. Upon tasting, the drink’s liquid component exhibited a flavour and consistency akin to Calpis—lightly sweet, slightly acidic, resembling a mildly milky Mitsuya Cider, albeit with less pronounced dairy notes. The cubes of apples, sized at around 2.5 mm, were uniformly dispersed throughout each sip, offering a delicate crunch and retaining their characteristic apple texture. However, their contribution was primarily textural; they introduced only a subtle hint of acidity and no distinct apple flavour. Instead of an “apple yogurt,” it would be more accurate to describe this as a “yogurt with apple pieces.” Regardless, we found the textured Calpis to be thoroughly enjoyable.

This Pokka Sapporo Hoobaru Fruit Saku Saku Kakugiri Apple Yoghurt contained 380 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2023.
