This is the Asahi Mitsuya Glucose Soda. Released in 2024 to commemorate Mitsuya Cider’s 140th anniversary, this beverage contained 27 g of glucose, aiming to recreate the nostalgic sweetness of its early formulations. The sugar content accounted for 5.56–8.89% of the beverage, compared to 10.6% in Coca-Cola.
The soda had a translucent off-white hue with a sweet, lemony sharpness reminiscent of ginger ale, characteristic of modern Mitsuya Cider, along with strong carbonation. When consumed chilled, the same lemon-ginger ale notes were immediately apparent, while the carbonation built from mid-sip to a palate-cleansing intensity by the finish. This contrasted with most Japanese soft drinks, where the effervescence tends to peak only at the end. The sweetness was light and refreshing, with a rounder, smoother flavour compared to the sharper, more acidic, and lemon-forward profile of modern Mitsuya Cider. It was a beverage worth purchasing for its nostalgic flavour.
