This is Kirin Mets Cola, our favourite mainstream cola, previously only available to us in Japan. While we enjoy it for its taste and appreciate its 0 calorie content, it also includes indigestible dextrin, which is claimed to ‘suppress the absorption of fat from meals and moderate the rise in triglycerides after eating’.
The beverage had a nearly opaque brown-black hue with a sharp, sweet cola aroma and high carbonation. Consumed chilled, the soft carbonation was evident from the first sip, along with a mellow sweetness that developed into sharper spiced notes — cinnamon or clove — typically found in craft colas. Mid-sip, a gentle acidity emerged, followed by intensified carbonation towards the end for a sharp, refreshing finish. We appreciated the craft cola-like taste and aroma, offering a sharper flavour without the excessive sweetness or pronounced acidity found in other brands. This is a beverage we would gladly repurchase.
