Wong Lo Kat Green Mandarin Herbal Drink

This is the Wong Lo Kat Green Mandarin Herbal Drink, a variation of the original that includes tangerine juice. Its herbal blend contained mandarin orange, prunella vulgaris, and frangpiani.

The beverage had a lighter brown hue than the original and carried a similar grass jelly aroma. Consumed chilled, it began with the familiar sweetness at the start of each sip, followed by a gradual emergence of herbal nuances. The dominant flavour closely resembled grass jelly, despite the absence of Mesona chinensis in the ingredients, as this version used Prunella vulgaris instead. The flavour peaked in the body before transitioning to a smooth finish.

Although green mandarin juice was listed as the first ingredient after water and sugar, its presence was neither overt nor identifiable. The most notable difference from the original was the absence of the floral chrysanthemum notes in the finish, which also eliminated the characteristic cooling sensation. Additionally, this version had a thicker mouthfeel, with increased sweetness contributing to its smoother texture. However, it lacked the complexity of the original, resembling sweetened grass jelly in liquid form and was not compelling enough to warrant repurchasing.

This Wong Lo Kat Green Mandarin Herbal Drink contained 310 mL. It was produced in China and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
