The Tsuboichi Dong Ding Oolong Tea Latte is a powdered drink mix for use with either milk or soy milk.
The powdered mix consisted of 10% powdered Dong Ding oolong and 90% sugar (or 8% sugar when prepared). The milk tea can be prepared using 1 part powder to 10-12 parts milk for a more milky taste or 1 part powder to 6 parts water to 4 parts milk for a stronger tea flavour.
Prepared with a combination of water and milk, the milk tea took on an opaque green-yellow colour. Sweet notes at the head of the sip were swiftly followed by rich honey-like grassy notes in the body that developed in prominence with a notable astringency towards the finish before lingering with a subtle sweet aftertaste. This preparation retained a creamy mouthfeel, yet delivered a more balanced sweetness by paring back the rich sweetness lent by using just milk and allowing rich honey-like notes of the lightly roasted oolong to come through more prominently. Overall, we enjoyed this convenient tea powder for preparing a full-bodied milk tea.
