We were adventurous with our mooncake flavours in 2017 with lychee, tiramisu, mango and honeydew, so this year we went back for the more traditional, yet modern, flavours. This here is Breadtop Mini Mooncake Brown Sugar Longan and Yolk Paste.
Each box comes with a sealed pair of mini mooncakes.
The Breadtop logo featured atop each mooncake. Each mooncake is around 5 cm in diameter and 3 cm in height with a longan and yolk paste filling.
For better texture and taste, the packaging recommends warming up the mooncake in a microwave for 10 seconds at 600W.
The mooncake has a prominent dried longan aroma in contrast to the typical smell of wheat from the pastry. Served warm, the sweet and slightly smoky flavour of dried longan came through prominently at the head of each bite from the longan paste and melts to a smooth texture with bits of actual longan to provide pops of sweetness before the salted duck egg yolk paste came through towards the end of the bite. We thoroughly enjoyed this modern twist on a traditional mooncake that still uses traditional Chinese flavours.
This Breadtop Mini Mooncake Brown Sugar Longan and Yolk Paste contained 130 g or 2x 50 g pieces. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
