Westfield Parramatta seems to be experiencing the effects of the recent retail slump without tenants for a number of shop fronts. Other shop fronts are seeing a quick turnover, with Rolls Vietnam being one of the newest to arrive at the Level 5 food court.
This is their basic Vietnamese Pork Roll (reg, $6.90; Thursday evenings, $5.00), described as containing ‘steamed pork, Vietnamese ham, rolled pork, cucumber, pickled carrots coriander, shallots, soy sauce, pate, mayonnaise and chilli’.
The bread roll is crispy and all the trimmings are there, but there’s something lacking in the overall flavour — the bread lacked fragrance, the sauce lacked depth, and the salad lacked volume —that makes it less satisfying than many other pork rolls we’ve enjoyed. On top of that, the normal price of $6.90 (reduced from $7.90 since opening!) and the glacial service — be prepared to wait a good 10-12 minutes before receiving the food — makes this a place we’re not likely to return.
