Van Loi Bread & Juice is T’s go-to place for bánh mì thit in Bankstown.
Their Pork Roll ($4.50) has most of the usual trimmings — sliced pork, pork sausage, roasted barbeque pork, along with carrot, cucumber and coriander. While the pickled carrots could have used some more acidity, we missed the pickled daikon and the slathering of mayonnaise was a touch heavy-handed, the result is a very satisfying and hearty pork roll that more than satisfies any base craving for a pork roll. Critically, it holds back on using lettuce as a filler.
Marrickville Pork Roll is superior in terms of overall flavour and generosity of toppings, yet Van Loi Bread & Juice wins out with the most competitive price for a decent pork roll that I’ve encountered anywhere in Sydney.
