Biang Biang, Macquarie Park

Biang Biang started as a single Shaanxi restaurant in Sydney’s Chinatown in mid-2017 before multiplying rapidly to over eight stores by early 2019 when we visited the store in Macquarie.

This Pastry Stuffed with Shredded Pork ($8.00) is one of four roujiamo on offer. Roujiamo is a street food that is essentially a Chinese burger where the buns are instead a flaky pastry filled with pork or vegetables.

We’re surprised by the juiciness of the ‘shredded pork’, which looked to us much like pork that’s been chopped up. While the pastry was flaky, it was dry and made us long for the butteriness of a roti canai.

Moving on to the noodles this is the Baing Biang Noodle with Tomato and Egg ($11.80).

I enjoyed the crispness of the fresh vegetables but found the tomato and egg sauce lacking in acidity to cut through the doughy texture of the noodles, which were chewy as promised but too thick and large to be effective and tidy carriers of the sauce.

This is D’s Biang Biang Noodle with Beef ($13.80). He enjoyed the sweat-inducing heat from the mouth-numbing chilli, but also found the noodles much too doughy to be enjoyable.

We’re glad to have experienced the hype around biang biang noodles for ourselves, but we’re not fans.

Biang Biang is located at Level 3 Macquarie Shopping Centre, Cnr Herring Rd and Waterloo Rd, Macquarie Park NSW 2113.
