In the mood for honey chicken but not in the mood to leave the house, we had the version from Fortune Bites in Carlingford home delivered. This Honey Chicken ($17.00) hit the spot for crispy fried chicken with just the right thickness of batter and generously sized and juicy pieces of chicken. The flavour of honey was quite subdued, though, and we resorted to adding more at home.
To complement our chicken, we also tried the Deep Fried Duck with Plum Sauce ($20.80). The portion was very generous and bone-free, which was a very welcome surprise. The meat itself was lightly crisp and juicy, with the plum sauce adding an enjoyable acidity to cut through the denser duck meat.
Finally, the order came with a bag of complimentary prawn crackers that were heat sealed for freshness.
We enjoyed these deep-fried dishes, which were crisp without being oily. Despite the lacking honey sauce, we would be interested to try other dishes at the restaurant.
