Jenny’s Bun replaced a grocer in Chatswood’s Victoria Plaza at the start of 2025, specialising in steamed Chinese buns with a variety of savoury fillings, alongside the classic sweet red bean option.
The menu also includes wonton soup, steamed dumplings, congee, noodles, and soy milk, all incorporating ingredients from their buns.
Braised Beef Brisket Bun ($4.20)
The flavour of the braised beef brisket was rich and well-seasoned, reminiscent of the beef found in noodle dishes. Despite the menu’s chilli warning, the bun was not spicy. The beef flavour was prominent, and the use of real beef was evident.
Pork & Preserved Cabbage Bun ($3.50)
The filling had a well-balanced combination of juicy preserved cabbage and pork. The pork flavour was distinct, and the seasoning was well-executed.
Chicken & Mushroom Bun ($3.50)
The filling contained a generous amount of chicken and mushroom. The flavour was richly savoury and well-seasoned, with the chicken providing a noticeable presence.
Eggs, Chive & Prawns Bun ($3.00)
The filling was highly fragrant due to the chives. While the egg component was subtle, the overall filling remained juicy and well-seasoned. Only a single small prawn was included, but it was flavourful. This bun was enjoyable and worth ordering again.
The fillings of the buns were flavourful and well-executed. However, the dough was denser than ideal and lacked the light and fluffy texture expected of steamed buns. Despite this, the buns were enjoyable, and a return visit would be worthwhile to try other varieties on the menu.
