Whenever we visit Lidcombe Shopping Centre, its very limited food court offering has us eyeing the ‘lunch from $10.00’ sign outside Rashays. Just after Christmas, we were hungry with shopping ahead of us, so we ventured in.
This is the Chicken Parmy & Chips ($12.00 lunch special) with ‘hand-crumbed chicken schnitzel topped with napolitana sauce, Danish feta, mozzarella cheese and with a side of hot crispy chips’.
Chicken breast is one of my least favourite cuts of meat but this one surprised me with its juiciness – it was still stringy, but there was none of the dreaded squeaky mouthfeel. The napolitana sauce added pleasant pops of tanginess and together with the cheese meant the schnitzel wasn’t as crispy but they made for the perfect combination of tastiness.
This is D’s Schnitzel & Chips ($11.00 lunch special) with ‘hand-crumbed chicken schnitzel, hot crispy chips and signature creamy mushroom sauce’.
The plate came out steaming hot, which meant that the chicken was a bit dry. Perhaps they’d cooked our schnitzels together but mine had the sauce to counter? D found the flavour of onion prominent in the mushroom sauce, while I found the dairy notes strong. But otherwise, it was a decent meal with the chips having the same crispy skin while retaining its fluffy innards.
The menu at Rashays is vast and the service is friendly and attentive even if the food takes its time to arrive.
