The Growers Indonesian Restaurant, Ryde

Situated within The Growers greengrocer at Top Ryde City Shopping Centre, this Indonesian Restaurant offers a casual setting and a concise, focused menu of comforting dishes.

Kwetiau Seafood Siram ($17.90)

Described as stir-fried flat rice noodles served with thick egg gravy, prawns, fish cakes, and vegetables, this dish was executed with noticeable wok hei. The portion included a generous quantity of prawns and fish cake, with julienned carrots and choy sum providing contrasting textures—the former retaining a pleasant bite. The thick egg gravy coated all ingredients well, delivering a savoury umami flavour in every mouthful. The portion was decent, though the wait time was longer than other dishes, as it was cooked to order.

Nasi Padang ($17.00)

Served with steamed rice, the diner may select a protein (in this case, beef rendang), accompanied by cassava leaves curry, jackfruit and vegetable curry, sambal eggplant, a boiled egg, and sambal. The beef rendang featured fork-tender cubes of beef, with a rich and rounded coconut base carrying a warm spice blend. The sambal eggplant had a satisfying smoky, earthy heat and retained its structure without being overly soft. The cassava leaves provided a welcome source of greens, though were somewhat overcooked and lacking in texture. The jackfruit curry, mild and creamy with turmeric and coconut milk, served as a balancing element against the spicier items. The jackfruit itself offered a texture somewhere between bamboo shoot and melon. The boiled egg effectively absorbed the sambal, and the rice was cooked on the drier side—ideal for soaking up the curries without becoming overly soft.

Kwetiau Goreng Beef ($17.00)

A satisfying stir-fry of flat rice noodles with beef, egg, bean sprouts, and garlic chives. The dish was hearty with solid wok hei and a well-caramelised sauce. The beef was tender without the overly soft texture of excessive bicarb use. Bean sprouts remained crisp, and the noodles retained a pleasant chew. A reliable option worth returning for.

Ifume ($17.90)

Crispy deep-fried noodles served with thick egg gravy, prawns, fish cakes, and vegetables. The noodles were initially crisp but softened as they absorbed the gravy. The sauce could have benefited from a thicker consistency but was otherwise well-seasoned. The vegetables and seafood held good texture, and the dish arrived hot. Portion size was fair.

Cendol ($7.00)

The cendol was particularly well-executed. The depth of palm sugar added a warm, biscuity sweetness that paired well with the richness of the coconut milk. The pandan-flavoured rice jelly strands contributed a gentle grassy vanilla note. A balanced and highly enjoyable dessert beverage—among the best cendols locally.

The Growers Indonesian Restaurant delivers well-executed, satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. With balanced flavours, attention to texture, and generous portions, it remains a worthwhile stop for casual Indonesian fare in the area.
