After being overwhelmed by the portion sizes of the souffle pancakes at The Brothers Cafe, we gave pancakes a rest for a few months before visiting Cha Ball in Burwood. Cha Ball is one of many bubble tea places in Burwood and distinguish themselves with souffle pancakes.
This is the Milk Tea Souffle Pancakes ($8.80). The pancakes are made to order so there’s almost always a 20 minute wait from ordering.
There are two pancakes each around 10 cm in diameter and 4 cm tall. The pancakes are pillowy soft and high, tasting much like very moist chiffon cake with a light sweetness and vanilla flavour. The milk tea sauce is smooth and silky and delivered a strong and fragrant tea flavour, although those sensitive to bitterness (like D) will pick up on the sharpness. While the pancakes were enjoyable, their lightness meant it took us all of a minute to enjoy, putting the 20 minute wait into perspective.
