My Donut Box started out as a store distinguishing itself from existing doughnut stores by offering custom toppings on their doughnuts. That said, the choice of toppings consisted almost solely of various types of candies and chocolates from the supermarket attached to their glazed doughnuts. It was never particularly inventive or successful as they reverted to being an ordinary doughnut shop offering pre-glazed and filled doughnuts. We managed to catch a few of their doughnuts during a 3 for $5.00 deal.

This is a doughnut dipped in passionfruit icing.

The doughnuts are sizeable at around 10 cm in diameter, but there’s simply too much dough compared to icing here. The dough is dense and heavy, without nearly enough icing to add moisture and flavour. We did enjoy the icing with its tropical pineapple and passionfruit flavour along with passionfruit seeds to add crunch.

This is a doughnut dipped in chocolate icing and covered with sprinkles.

This is the same size as the passionfruit one above but had even less icing coverage. The doughnut is just as dense and heavy with the added disadvantage that the icing tasted like cheap chocolate.

Finally, this a salted-caramel filled doughnut.

As with all their doughnuts, the texture is dense and particularly evident in the bottom half of this photo of the innards. The salted caramel was salty and sweet, but its thickness and heaviness did not help to lighten the dense dough.
It’s no wonder we took so long to try these doughnuts. For the same price or less, there are much more enjoyable doughnuts to be had in Sydney. For one, the light and fluffy texture of Krispy Kreme doughnuts never fail to satisfy a doughnut craving.
