Harry’s Cafe de Wheels is famous for selling pies at around locations in Sydney. I worked 1 minute away from their original and iconic pie cart in Woolloomooloo previously, and now I work about 5 minutes away from another. I’ve heard amazing accounts from colleagues about their pies along the lines of ‘this is the most amazing pie I’ve had – you must try it’.

Try it I did. Not their signature ‘tiger’ with mushed peas, mash and gravy, but their chicken and mushroom pie.

And for probably the first time since being disappointed constantly after reading people’s ‘amazing’ encounters with food, I could understand why people raved about these pies, and why people kept coming back for these pies. This pie was filled to the brim with walnut-sized pieces of very tender chicken breast and mushroom. The pie didn’t try to fill up the empty space by drowning the chicken in sauce either. The pie innards were held together with a creamy sauce. You could eat the pie without dripping sauce all over the place!
Harry’s Cafe de Wheels is located at 730-742 George St, Haymarket NSW 2000.
