Completing the exams for admission as a general practitioner in Australia is a milestone. So, D and I met up with T and N at Hog’s Breath Cafe in Blacktown to celebrate T completing his exams.

Between D and I, we have the Lychee Breeze ($6.50) (left) with lychee syrup, apple juice, lime juice topped with sparkling water as well as the Passionfruit & Mint Lemonade ($6.50) (right) with passionfruit syrup, passionfruit pulp, mint leaves topped with lemonade (Lift).
The Lychee Breeze was the standout for its pronounced lychee flavour, while the Passionfruit & Mint Lemonade tasted much like a lemonade despite the visible passionfruit pulp.

D had the Panko Prawn Prime Rib with vegetables and baked potato ($36.00.95) and mushroom sauce (+$2.20).

The steak was a tad more overcooked than D preferred, having asked for medium rare and receiving medium. That said, it was still tender and went well with the mushroom sauce, and T’s and N’s medium rare steaks turned out just right. The prawns, however, were rather disappointing as the panko coating was not crunchy at all, even without the lemon.

Craving the pull-apart yumminess of rib meat, I have the Boss Hog Beef Ribs with BBQ sweet chilli sauce, Hog Tail Fries and vegetables ($39.00.95).

The meat on the ribs varied in in their tenderness – the two ribs on the edges were a tad dry, although it still fell away from the bone, but the centre rib was also deliciously juicy. The sweet caramelisation from the BBQ sweet chilli sauce went well with the ribs, although there was no hint of heat as you’d expect from sweet chilli. The serving of vegetables was generous, although the juicy corn kernels lacked sweetness (probably steamed from frozen). The serving of Hogtail fries was rather small and could have been more crispy.
