Everyone likes a restaurant with a good menu, and I especially love one with an interesting set up and menu. And a few days into 2016, I landed in just the place at the Blacktown branch of Lone Star Ribhouse for birthday celebrations for D and his mum.
A barrel of peanuts greets you just behind the counter.

You’re encouraged to help yourself to a complementary bucket of peanuts to snack on while you wait for your food.

The menu is categorised under quirky headings, like underwater beef.

The drinks menu goes all out with their fruit oil (fruit juice), black water (coffee) and flavoured moo juice (milkshakes). Texas tea (a play on Texas oil) fell flat, though.

I can’t resist the fun of ordering ‘underwater beef’, so I try the Little Fella’s Fish and Chips ($17.00.95). The fish was beautifully flaky and came with a crispy battery coating, although the underside of was a bit soft from the heat. The chips were a nice thick cut seasoned with their secret blend of salt and fluffy on the inside with a crispy skin. Like the fish though, many were also worse for wear from the heat of the fish.

D goes for their signature ribs with the Real Beef ‘Beef’ Ribs ($34.00.95). The ribs are slow cooked in the barbecue Texan style for 8 hours. And it makes all the difference! The meat on the ribs falls right off the bone and is melt-in-your-mouth tender and mouthwateringly juicy. D gets his ribs with a baked potato with whipped butter that I promptly ask him to ‘share’ with me – it’s not much like the jagabata you get in Japan but still beautifully fluffy and moreish: the best carbs!
Lone Star Rib House is located at 80 Blacktown Rd, Blacktown NSW 2148.
