This is the Itsuki Hokkaidō Yuzushio Ramen, served Hokkaidō-style with a yuzu salt flavour. Each package contained two servings of noodles. The ramen is prepared by boiling the two serves in 900 mL of noodles for 2.5 minutes before adding the powdered soup base.
The broth base was clear with a mellow savoury yuzu aroma that came through with an enjoyable brightness on tasting. The yuzu flavour was evident with its gentle zesty tang and balanced well by the addition of the salt. The noodles themselves were more akin to the dehydrated non-fried noodles than the more moreish and bitey instant ramen noodles, which we prefer. However, the noodles did carry the flavour of the broth well.
Compared to other similarly premium instant noodles, these ones lacked the warming depth that came from the chicken broth base used in the Nissin Raoh Instant Noodles Yuzu Salt, as well as the richer savoury flavour in the Itsuki Tōkyō Yuzu Shōyu Ramen. However, this richness may have been achieved if we added a pat of butter for a truly Hokkaidō-style ramen.
This Itsuki Foods Hokkaidō Yuzushio Ramen contained 170 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2022.
