The noodles featured a noodle cake accompanied by toppings of kimchi paste, dehydrated kimchi, dehydrated pork (of which chicken is, oddly, an ingredient), miso powder, dehydrated egg, dehydrated green onion.
After rehydrating them with boiling water up to the designated line inside the cup for 3 minutes, the soup base transformed into an opaque dark red-orange hue with a savoury and garlicky aroma recalling stir-fried kimchi. While the noodles maintained their usual al dente texture without becoming elastic, the thinner viscosity of the soup meant it did nt coat the noodles as well. The soup had a moderate level of spiciness—enjoyable without being as weak as the spicy beef variant or as overpowering as the extra spicy tonkotsu. Despite the inclusion of kimchi paste, the soup lacked a distinct flavor other than being generally savoury on tasting, with only some depth from the miso. The rehydrated ‘pork’ provided a pleasant, meaty flavour, while the rehydrated egg was mushy. The cabbage, once rehydrated, delivered a genuine cabbage flavor.
Overall, the presence of kimchi cabbage and pork gave it the impression of a kimchi pork hot pot. However, for a truly satisfying kimchi-flavoured instant noodle, we would readily opt for Nongshim Shin Ramyun Kimchi without hesitation, as this particular version fell well short in comparison.
