Gippsland Dairy Lemon Curd Twist Yogurt

This is the Gippsland Dairy Lemon Curd Twist Yogurt. While we typically aren’t fans of yoghurt from Gippsland Dairy, our interest was piqued by its recent accolade as the ‘champion yogurt or cultured milk product’ at the 2024 Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show, awarded by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW. It contained reconstituted apple purée and 0.03% lemon juice concentrate.

The lemon curd, vibrant in its yellow hue, formed layers both at the bottom and the top of the yogurt. When tasted, the curd presented a runny thickness with a sweet lemon flavour derived from lemon juice, albeit lacking in zestiness or tartness. This resulted in a uniform creamy and smooth texture, where any acidity and sweetness from the lemon curd seemed overshadowed by the usual tartness of yoghurt. Consequently, it failed to offer the freshness typically provided by fruit pulp. Moreover, the dairy notes of the cream were dominant, resulting in yogurt that felt somewhat lacking in flavour and textural variety. This made its award-winning status somewhat surprising.

This Gippsland Dairy Lemon Curd Twist Yogurt contained 160 g. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
