The chips had a substantial thickness of approximately 1 mm, were coated with a black, green, and red-hued seasoning and had a peppery aroma. Upon tasting, the chips delivered a highly satisfying crunch, accompanied by an initial sweetness of tomato as the chip made contact with the palate. This sweetness was swiftly followed by an aromatic and flavorful chilli presence, characterized by deep savoury notes of soy, onion, and garlic, along with the peppery hints suggested in the aroma. The flavour profile developed further with a gradual heat that built at the back of the throat, reaching a significant intensity without causing discomfort or overshadowing the chip’s savoury flavours.
Overall, we were delighted to discover these chips, with D rating them higher than the Kettle Chips Chilli. The thick-cut, kettle-cooked chips successfully married a robust chilflavourvor with unapologetic heat. The only drawback noted was that the hearty seasoning somewhat subdued the richness of the potatoflavourr in comparison to the simplicity of the sea salt version.
