This is the Shikanai Senbei Koaki Apple Senbei. The name “Koaki” translates to “a small autumn,” reflecting the vibrant ruby-red apples that blanket Aomori Prefecture’s Tsugaru region in autumn. Shikanai Senbei has encapsulated this picturesque scenery and the rich taste of these apples in a delicate senbei.

Each package contained five individually sealed bags, with each bag holding two senbei.

Each senbei consisted of a wafer-thin round slice of dried apple baked directly into the cracker. Each piece measured approximately 8 cm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness, while the apple slice itself was about 0.5 mm thick and varied between 5–6 cm in diameter.
The senbei base had a crisp snap with a mellow, toasty sweetness. The embedded apple slice, slightly less crisp, softened upon tasting to deliver a fresh apple flavour with balanced sweetness and gentle acidity. This subtle contrast in texture was barely perceptible and harmonized beautifully with the cracker. The care required to prepare such delicately thin, round apple slices and bake them into crackers of nearly equal thickness resulted in an exceptional snack. These apple crisps were light and satisfying, making them worthy of repurchase.
This Shikanai Senbei Koaki Apple Senbei contained 5 bags, each with 2 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchassed in Aomori, Japan in 2024.
