This is the Casahana Elegance 2D Black Sesame Gold & Matcha Red Bean Omochi Mooncakes.

The tin contained two mooncakes: Black Sesame Gold (left) and Matcha Red Bean Omochi (right). This is a refreshed version of their previous Elegance 2D tin, where the Matcha Red Bean Omochi replaced the Jade Custard (a pandan-flavoured mooncake).

The Black Sesame Gold mooncake featured a traditional golden crust filled with black sesame-flavoured lotus paste and scattered melon seeds, with a salted egg yolk centre.
The crust had a light, savoury sweetness and gave way to the thick, fragrant black sesame paste. Although the aroma was mild, the sesame flavour was rich and blended well with the lotus paste. The nuttiness of the sesame broke up the usual heaviness of the lotus paste, and the melon seeds added a crunchy contrast to the thick paste. The salted egg yolk provided an additional savoury element, further balancing the sweetness.

The Matcha Red Bean Omochi mooncake had a green crust with matcha-flavoured lotus paste, and a red bean and mochi centre.
The green crust was more of a visual element, with the matcha flavour coming through in the lotus paste, adding a mild grassy note balanced by the smooth sweetness of the red bean. The matcha’s potential bitterness was well masked, and the mochi inside offered a soft texture, breaking up the dense paste. While a hint of crunch would have been welcome, the mooncake overall delivered well-balanced flavours.
This Casahana Elegance 2D Black Sesame Gold & Matcha Red Bean Omochi Mooncakes contained 2 x 170 g pieces. It was produced in Malaysia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
