Traditional almond cookies are a popular regional souvenir for tourists visiting Macau. They’re also a favourite gift of my aunt, so we’re lucky to enjoy their roasty nuttiness half way across the world. This time we have these Koi Kei Bakery Almond Cookies with Whole Almond.
Each box contained 24 cookies.
Each cookie is sealed individually in foil and 5 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height. The cookies are typically made from almonds, mung bean, icing sugar and lard.
The cookies have a nutty almond aroma that came through with sweet with a fine crumb on tasting. The fine almond crumb starts off sweet before a gentle buttery savoury flavour came through in mid-bite as it melts on the tongue to give the cookie a lightness and moistness that defies its dry and dense appearance. Whole almonds throughout the cookie add pops of crunch that contrast well with the fine crumb of the rest of the cookie.
This Koi Kei Bakery Almond Cookies with Whole Almond contained 480 g or 20 pieces. It was produced in Macau and received as a gift from family visiting Hong Kong in 2019.
