We picked up two flavours of the Minato Seika Cream Daifuku. Each daifuku has a diameter of 5 cm and height of 2.5 cm.
This is the Strawberry, which consisted of a fresh cream centre surrounded by a strawberry white bean paste and a mochi exterior. It featured fresh strawberry as well as strawberry flavouring.
The mochi was pink in colour and very soft to the touch, but the strawberry flavour came exclusively from the deep red strawberry-flavoured white bean paste. The strawberry flavour was bright much like a strawberry compote and carried a hint of acidity to bring out its fresh flavour, while the white bean paste base gave it a thick mouthfeel that contrasts the softness of the mochi and the creamy lightness of the whipped cream centre. Overall, we enjoyed the freshness of the strawberry flavour and the various soft textures of this cream daifuku.
This is the Matcha, which consisted of a fresh cream centre surrounded by matcha (0.2%) white bean paste and a mochi exterior. The mochi was green with a mild matcha flavour with its softness giving way to a more boldly flavoured white bean paste. The overall matcha flavour was gently vegetal with a balanced sweetness and without bitterness. The white bean paste’s thickness contrasted with the mochi’s smoothness and the creamy lightness of the whipped cream centre. We enjoyed the textures of this daifuku but preferred the brightness of the strawberry version.
These Minato Seika Cream Daifuku each contained 60 g or 1 piece. They were produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2022.
