Seiki Yuzu Mochi

This is the Seiki Yuzu Mochi. Each bag contained 12 pieces, each gaining their yuzu flavour from the addition of yuzu paste.

Each piece had an organic shape, averaging around 3.5 cm in diameter and 1.5 cm in height. The interior displayed an opaque yellow hue adorned with tiny specks of yuzu peel, while the exterior was generously coated in starch to prevent sticking. Upon tasting, the mochi offered a tender mouthfeel with a subtle bounce. The yuzu flavour was immediately apparent, with the rich juice of the fruit delivering a tantalizing acidity within the mochi’s body, expertly balanced by an equally vibrant sweetness. As we chewed through the mochi, the tiny bits of yuzu peel released a fragrant, zesty citrus flavour.

All in all, these mochi were satisfying in both texture and yuzu flavour. However, we do have a preference for the more delicately presented Nakaura Foods Matsue Wagashi Yuzu Komochi, which features less starch and includes a marmalade center.

This Seiki Yuzu Mochi contained 180 g or 12 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2023.
