This Nestlé KitKat Mainichi no Nuts and Cranberry Ruby Chocolate was released in March 2019 and is the second in what is now a series consisting of smaller, bite-sized format for KitKat in Japan. This one differs from the original by using ruby chocolate, which is made from carefully selected cocoa beans known as ruby cacao, grown mainly in South America, and has a natural bright pink colour.
These KitKat come in two formats:
- Above, top: balls around 2 cm in diameter. These come in the bag in the first photo in this post.
- Above, bottom: mini-bars 5 x 1 x 1 cm. These come in the larger typical bag not featured in this post.
Both feature wafers sandwiching a cream made from crushed KitKats that are then enrobed in ruby chocolate mixed with dried cranberries and crushed almonds.
Upon tasting, these KitKat have an initial crispness from the light and airy wafers before the chocolate softens and the wafers melt in the mouth to leave the gentle acidity and chew of the dried cranberries and firmer crunch of the crushed almonds in the finish. The natural fruity tartness of the ruby chocolate lends itself well to the cranberry and its more mellow flavour provides a clean after taste in contrast to the lingering boldness of the dark chocolate in the original. These were enjoyable though they contain fewer pieces per bag.
This KitKat Mainichi no Nuts and Cranberry Ruby Chocolate contained 31 g or 6 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2019.
