KitKat Mainichi no Nuts and Cranberry Dark Chocolate

This Nestlé KitKat Mainichi no Nuts and Cranberry Dark Chocolate was released in March 2019 with the aim of incorporating nuts and dried fruit that were part of the current trend towards healthier eating and targeted towards women (according to the company).

These KitKat come in two formats:

  1. Above, top: balls around 2 cm in diameter. These come in the bag in the first photo in this post.
  2. Above, bottom: mini-bars 5 x 1 x 1 cm. These come in the larger typical bag not featured in this post.

Both feature wafers sandwiching a cream made from crushed KitKats that are then enrobed in dark chocolate mixed with dried cranberries and crushed almonds.

These KitKat give an audible crunch as we bite through the thicker layer of enrobing chocolate and wafers. The give a chewy texture and enjoyable acidity (without straying into boozy the boozy territory of some fruit flavoured chocolates), while the crushed almonds bring a warm crunch that accentuates the crispness of the wafers.  The chocolate brought a mellow sweetness that builds towards the end of the bite where the subtle bitterness of the dark chocolate lingered for a more ‘adult’ and healthy feeling finish.

This KitKat Mainichi no Nuts and Cranberry Dark Chocolate contained 36 g or 7 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2019.
