Nestlé KitKat Tōkyō Banana was released in November 2017 as a collaboration between two iconic omiyage items from Japan: Nestlé KitKat and Tōkyō Banana. With an initial exclusive release at Tōkyō Okashi Land inside Tōkyō Station, these KitKat became more widely available in early January 2018 just in time for our visit.

The front of the box builds upon the design elements and colours of the original Tōkyō Banana with KitKat touches in the red logo and the text, while the back contained a section explaining the significance of Tōkyō Banana like most region limited KitKat boxes.

The KitKats are available in boxes of 8 and 15 mini bars.

The packaging of each minibar featured the same design as the external packaging.

Each mini bar resembles a pair of tiny bananas, joined at one side and split down the middle, while the words ‘Tōkyō Banana’ and ‘KitKat’ are imprinted on the chocolate along with the signature bow-topped banana logo.
There’s a pleasant smell of milk chocolate, but not the banana, from each minibar. The banana flavour, though, came through pleasantly mellow and ripe in the first bite before the milk chocolate melts to mask the flavour. Once melted, though, the banana custard sandwiching the wafers returns with a stronger flavour that recalled the moist and creamy richness of a perfectly ripe banana. A choc-banana finish lingered briefly.
The overall effect of the collaboration is a tasty combination of the defining tastes of both sweets: the creamy banana filling of the Tōkyō Banana and the crunchy crispness of KitKat wafers.
This Nestlé KitKat Tōkyō Banana contained 8 mini bars. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Ōsaka, Japan in 2018.
