World famous in New Zealand. That’s the advertising slogan for Lemon & Paeroa or L&P, a soft drink traditionally made by combining lemon juice with carbonated mineral water from the town of Paeroa in New Zealand. It’s delicious with a flavour that’s different from any other lemon-flavoured soft drink, like lemon squash or lemonade, and it would be no surprise if it were famous worldwide had it originated in a larger country. In a collaboration with another New Zealand brand, L&P partnered to create Whittaker’s L&P White Chocolate Block.

This chocolate bar combines bits of L&P popping candy with Whittaker’s white chocolate to create an even more quintessentially New Zealand product.

The light and sweet lemon flavour of L&P was evident from the smell of the chocolate bar and came through prominently in the first bite. It’s a bit surprising to be tasting L&P in solid form when you’ve long associated the flavour with its liquid form, but the creamy sweetness that emerged as the white chocolate melts returns your taste buds to more familiar territory before the popping candy emerged in the body to unite the lemon flavour with its critical carbonation. The popping candy continues to ‘pop’ after the chocolate has all melted and left your tongue, leaving a pleasantly refreshing fragrant lemon flavour of L&P on the palate. This white chocolate is a fun and enjoyable chocolate.
This Whittaker’s L&P White Chocolate Block contained 250 g. It was produced in New Zealand and purchased in Auckland, New Zealand in 2014.
